Navigate to the central generate action bar at the bottom of the new generation and editing workspace, and select Image.
Learn how to generate images and videos, edit them, and access previous generations in the new generation and editing experience in Adobe Firefly.
The new generation and editing experience is a beta feature in Adobe Firefly, currently available for testing and feedback.
The new generation and editing experience lets you generate images and videos, manage project assets, and access generation history, all in a single workspace.
Generate an image
If you have a reference image for the generation, select Reference to upload one from Your device, or Adobe cloud storage.
You can also reuse an existing reference by selecting the icon in the Reference section of a previously generated image, or drag and drop an image to Reference.
Enter a prompt describing the image and scene you want to create.
Select an Adobe or partner model from the model drop-down menu.
The new generation and editing workspace currently supports only a limited number of models. Model-specific settings change when you switch between models. For example, when using GPT Image, you can also select an image quality setting of Low, Medium, or High.
Select Elements to add reusable elements. Elements are available only with partner and non-Adobe models.
Select a preferred Aspect ratio and Resolution, and then select Generate.

Maintain continuity in Timeline with Project media and Sources
Select More options > Add to timeline to add a generated image or video directly to a new timeline. Firefly creates and opens a new project with the selected asset added to the timeline, allowing you to continue editing immediately.
If you have already opened or created a timeline in the Timeline tab, selecting More options > Add to timeline adds the assets to the end of the existing timeline.
A. Project media and Files menu B. Switch between Generate and Timeline seamlessly C. Select project timeline from the timeline picker
When a project opens, the left side of the workspace includes the following panels:
- Project media: The Project media panel displays the assets and timelines already added to the current project. Use the Project media panel to manage, organize, and reuse project assets as you build and edit your timeline.
- Files: The Files panel lets you browse and access content from available repositories, including:
- Your files
- Shared with you
- Projects
- Adobe Stock
Use the Files panel to discover, search for, and import supported assets into your project. When you find the assets you’re looking for, you can drag and drop them to the timeline or select the Add to current project option to use them from the Project media panel.
As you generate content, your images and videos are automatically available from the Generation history panel. You can reuse references and frames, save assets to Project media, add content directly to the timeline panel, or continue refining generations with image and video editing tools.
