Use 3D digital twin workflows

Last updated on Apr 20, 2026

Apply 3D product models in cloud-based workflows to generate marketing content without physical photoshoots.

3D digital twin workflows combine photorealistic 3D product models with cloud rendering and generative AI to create marketing imagery at scale—from standardized product shots to lifestyle compositions—without requiring high-end desktop hardware or physical photography.

Use these workflows when you have a 3D USDZ file of your product and need to generate consistent marketing content across multiple angles, environments, or formats. The workflows leverage NVIDIA Omniverse pixel streaming for real-time 3D previews and Adobe Substance 3D Automation Services for final rendering. All three starter templates—Standardized Packshots, 360° Spin Video, and Composite Imagery—are available in Firefly Creative Production for Enterprise.

Adobe and NVIDIA partnered to build this cloud-native platform, unifying NVIDIA Omniverse RTX rendering, Adobe Substance 3D services, Firefly Creative Production Workflow Builder, and Frame.io for asset management through the USD interoperability standard.

  • Firefly Creative Production for Enterprise account
  • USDZ file containing your 3D product model with geometry, materials, and scene data
  • Access to Frame.io or AEM for 3D asset storage (optional)

3D Digital Twin workflows

All 3D Digital Twin workflows are available as starter templates in the Firefly Creative Production for Enterprise home page. Selecting a template will pre-load the workflow in the canvas view.

  • Standardized Packshots (3D): High-fidelity, detailed product images generated from a digital twin across predefined angles with consistent lighting and backgrounds for use across e-commerce and product display pages. They ensure visual consistency and brand accuracy at scale while reducing the time, cost, and variability of traditional photoshoots.
  • 360° Spin Video (3D): A 360° spin video generated from a digital twin showcases the product in a seamless turntable rotation. It delivers an in-store–like viewing experience that boosts engagement and purchase confidence while eliminating the need for physical photography.
  • Composite imagery (3D): Place 3D digital twins into generative AI–created environments to produce high-fidelity, photorealistic lifestyle imagery with accurate product representation. Used across e-commerce, marketing, and campaigns to create scalable, photorealistic product visuals, enabling brands to place products in diverse lifestyle settings without physical photoshoots.

Create composite imagery from a 3D digital twin

Navigate to Firefly.adobe.com and select Production.

Select the Composite Imagery (3D) starter template to load the workflow in the canvas.

In the Input 3D Node, select Upload and choose your USDZ file from local storage, Frame.io, or AEM.

Enter a text prompt describing the background environment you want to generate in the prompt field.

In the 3D Viewer, use the toolbar controls to pan, tilt, or zoom to frame your product, or select a predefined camera angle from the USDZ file.

Expand Advanced Options to configure the following:

  • Output resolution: Defines the size and clarity of the final image (e.g., 2688 × 1536 for high-definition output)
  • Content type: Determines the rendering style (e.g., photo for realistic, lifelike results)
  • Auto-generate ground plane: Automatically adds a surface beneath the product to ground it naturally in the scene
  • Variations: Specifies how many alternate outputs are generated in one run to explore different compositions
  • Seeds: Controls randomness for image generation, enabling reproducibility of results
  • Lighting seeds: Adjusts lighting variations independently, allowing control over shadows, highlights, and overall scene mood

Select Run to process the workflow and generate your composite image.

You can access your outputs from the Creative Production home page under Job log.

Tip

The 3D Viewer creates a custom camera angle when you interact with it, which automatically feeds into the compositing pipeline. For reproducible results across multiple runs, note the seed values used in your successful generations.

Workflow Node Usage Tips

3D Viewer

The 3D viewer offers live pixel streaming of your rendered 3D object. Use the toolbar at the bottom of the viewer to pan, tilt, or zoom into your 3D object. This generates a custom camera angle that can be used for compositing

Composite images (3D)

Select a hero asset and camera. If you have interacted with the 3D viewer, a custom camera will be generated for you that can be fed into the compositing pipeline

Running Composite Imagery (3D) interface

Creatives on a marketing team can use this interface to generate composite imagery by combining 3D digital twins with AI-generated backgrounds.

Go to the Firefly Creative Production home page to access Bulk Actions.

Upload the USDZ file and select a hero asset, camera (or create a custom camera by manipulating the 3D object in the viewer), and enter a prompt for background generation

To preview the output, select the “Preview” button at the bottom of the left control pane

Once satisfied with the preview output, click “Run” and the job will process

Outputs can be found from the Creative Production home page under Job log.

Building Standardized Packshots (3D) workflow

With your Firefly.adobe.com tab open, select Production. After selecting the Composite Imagery (3D) starter template, the workflow will load in the canvas.

Upload a USDZ file in the Input 3D Node (this file can be uploaded from your local storage, Frame AEM)

The Render node lets you configure the settings required to generate high-quality outputs from the 3D scene.

  • Output Size: Defines the resolution and aspect ratio
  • Zoom Factor: Adjusts object framing and scale
  • Background Color: Sets a solid background when no image is provided
  • Ground Plane: Enables or disables the shadow-catching surface
  • Exposure (EV): Controls overall scene brightnessRotation: Adjusts lighting direction and reflections

Select predefined views from the USDZ file to render

Workflow Node Usage Tips

3D Viewer

The 3D viewer in this workflow offers a preview of your 3D asset but does not create a custom angle from which the packshots are rendered. This is for a preview of the USDZ only

Render 3D Scene

Select the camera angles from which you’d like to render product packshots and adjust any additional visual parameters

Building 360 Spin/ Turntable Video workflow

Workflow Node Usage Tips

  • 3D Viewer: The 3D viewer in this starter workflow template offers a preview of your 3D asset but does not create a custom angle from which the spin video is rendered. This is for preview of the USDZ only.
  • 360 Spin Video/Turntable: Select a duration for the output video clip up to 5 seconds as well as other configurable parameters.
