Effortlessly edit any text in an InDesign document via the browser.
With live browser-based editing, InCopy on the web (beta) bridges the gap between designers and writers by streamlining collaboration.
- This feature is available only in English (North America) and English (International).
- Authors or text editors can create a free Adobe ID to access the web app.
- You can verify the email address of the Adobe account via https://account.adobe.com/profile.
Share your InDesign document for text editing
-
-
Select Share in the top-right corner.
-
Select Share for text editing and save the file in the new co-editable format (INDDL) to Creative Cloud under Your Files section. Once saved, add collaborator email addresses.
-
Select Invite to edit copy. Your collaborators receive an email with a link to start editing in their browser.
Tip- You can also share your document by navigating to File > Share for Text Editing (beta).
- You can use Copy link and share the link with your collaborators.
Real-time sync in desktop app and web
- The desktop app and web remain aligned with each other through real-time sync.
- Frame locking prevents two users from editing the same text frame at once.
- Locked frames display the collaborator’s avatar, name, and color highlight.
- InDesign users see collaborator presence and get an alert if they try to edit a locked frame.
Effortless text editing on the web
-
Open the shared document in Google Chrome.
-
Hover over a text frame. The cursor changes, indicating the frame is ready for editing.
-
Click inside the frame to begin typing. You can use the bold icon and italics icon to format the text.
A. Cloud sync status B. Threaded text C. Collaborators present on the document D. Pages panel E. Overset text F. Focus Mode G. Italics text format H. Bold text format I. Locked frame as the collaborator is working on it
Threaded frames show how text flows across multiple containers. If text exceeds the available space, an overset icon appears on the frame.
-
Select the Focus Mode icon to switch into a clean, distraction-free writing space. A progress counter shows how much of the text frame is filled. At 100%, the frame is full; beyond 100%, the counter turns red, and markers indicate overset content.
Check the progress counter to keep track of the space filled. Check the progress counter to keep track of the space filled. -
Make the necessary changes and select the Go Back icon to return to the layout view. The updates are automatically synced with the InDesign document.
Cloud sync status
Shows that the desktop app and web are in sync.
Shows that the changes made in the InDesign desktop app have not synced with the web. You need to reload the document.
We would love your feedback, as it helps us improve. To send your feedback, select Help icon > Submit Feedback in the browser.
Font Support in InCopy on the web (beta)
InCopy web provides comprehensive support for all the fonts available in Adobe fonts. When a document containing Adobe fonts is opened in the web application, these fonts are automatically downloaded during document loading, ensuring pixel-perfect rendering matches the desktop experience. Text formatting, such as italic and bold styles, is properly applied using the corresponding style variants within the same font family. In cases where fonts are unavailable or missing from the system, InCopy on the web automatically substitutes them with appropriate default fonts to maintain document readability and layout integrity.
Limitations
Here are some known limitations, and we're actively working to resolve these in future updates:
- Certain file formats, such as BMP, SVG, GIF, PDF, JPG with special effects, and MP4 assets, may not render properly in Chrome.
- Only supported on Google Chrome and Chromium-based browsers.
- If you are using previously shared documents as part of ID beta releases, you need to reshare the document.
- If the INDDL file is saved in Projects, it will always open in the web version. To open it in InDesign, right-click on the file, select Move > Your Files.
