Simplify sequences

Make a simplified copy of your sequence to remove unwanted elements and have a cleaner and neater-looking timeline.

Simplifying sequences are perfect for situations where:

  • You want to clean up your timeline, making it easier for you to focus on your story while editing.
  • You want to remove unwanted elements before sharing or exporting your sequence to hand off to another editor.

Simplifying a sequence

  1. Select a sequence and then click Sequence > Simplify Sequence, or right-click a sequence and select Simplify Sequence.

  2. Premiere Pro makes a copy of the sequence, and in the Simplify Sequence dialog box, you can choose the elements you do not want in your sequence copy. These can be elements such as empty tracks, transitions, graphics, and more.

  3. Choose Close vertical gaps on video tracks if you want the clips to move in a descending manner until a blocking clip or a locked track is found.

  4. Select Flatten Multi-Camera clips if you want them to reference the original sequence clips rather than being Multicam switchable.

  5. You can choose to remove these elements from video tracks, audio tracks, or both.

  6. Remove sequence markers according to the marker color. Then, click Simplify to get the simplified sequence.

Premiere Pro creates the simplified sequence next to your original sequence in the project.

Next steps

Now that you have a simplified copy of your sequence, you can continue to work on editing it or hand it off for further processing. Share the sequence with another editor, or export it as an XML file that can be opened using other software.
