Enable or disable a clip

Last updated on Apr 1, 2026

Learn to control which clips play in your Adobe Premiere sequence to test different edits or improve performance during complex projects.

You can disable a clip while trying out a different editing idea or to reduce processing time in complex projects. Disabled clips don’t appear in the Program Monitor, preview, or exported video. However, you can still edit them unless the track is locked.

In the Timeline panel, select the clips you want to enable or disable.

Select Clip > Enable. A check mark before Enable indicates that the clips are active.

Deselect Clip > Enable. Disabled clips appear dimmed in the Timeline panel.

Play back your sequence to verify which clips are active or temporarily disabled.
