Projects saved in v25.6.0 cannot be opened in other v25.x versions

Last updated on Dec 12, 2025

Learn how to fix issues where projects saved in Adobe Premiere v25.6.0 fail to open in other v25.x versions due to version compatibility changes.

Some users may experience issues opening project files saved in Premiere v25.6.0 when attempting to open them in other v25.x versions. This can occur when the project file format changes in a newer build, preventing older versions from reading the updated file.

Project format updated in v25.6.0

Download the project conversion app for your platform:

Install and open the app, then select the Premiere project files you want to convert. You can choose one or multiple files at the same time.

Alert

There are several downgrade apps available online, but we strongly recommend against using them. Non-Adobe apps and scripts are often outdated and may cause crashes and data loss. For more information, review the full post.

Team Projects support

If you have a Team Project that was created in v25.6.0 and now cannot be opened in a more recent version, please try these steps:

Open a different project.

Select WindowsMedia Browser panel.

In the Media Browser, navigate to Creative Cloud > Team Projects Versions.

Locate the Team Project you want to recover and select it.

Right-click the Team Project name and choose one of the following:

  • New Team Project from Version: Create a copy of the original Team Project from the older state.
  • Open Team Project (Version X, Read-Only): Open the project in the older state.

The project can now be saved as a new Team Project or as a local Premiere project file on your computer.
