Delete dynamically linked compositions or clips

Last updated on Apr 2, 2026

Learn how to select a linked composition or clip in your project to remove it from Adobe Premiere.

Dynamically linked assets maintain a live connection to their source After Effects compositions, appearing with unique icons and label colors in your project. You can delete these linked assets at any time without affecting the original After Effects project file.

Removing linked compositions helps keep your project organized when you no longer need specific After Effects content. You can delete linked assets, whether they're actively used in your sequences or stored only in the Project panel.

Remove a linked composition or clip

In the Project panel or Timeline, select the dynamically linked composition or clip you want to remove.

Press Delete to remove the asset from your project.

The dynamically linked asset is removed from Premiere immediately. This deletion severs the dynamic link connection but does not modify or delete the source After Effects project file or composition. If you need to restore the connection later, you can re-import the After Effects composition.
