Edit Premiere Sequences in Adobe Audition

Last updated on Apr 2, 2026

Learn how to send Adobe Premiere sequences to Adobe Audition for detailed audio editing.

Adobe Premiere allows you to transfer sequences to Adobe Audition for detailed audio refinement. When you send a sequence from Premiere, keyframes, effects, markers, and other audio metadata are preserved, allowing you to pick up your work seamlessly in Audition. Once Audition is installed, you can use the Edit in Adobe Audition command to modify an entire sequence.

Sending a sequence to Audition transfers the full fidelity of your composition, keeping keyframes, effects, Essential Sound settings, markers, and metadata intact. Sending a sequence lets you do further refinement, mixing and advanced composition in the Multitrack Editor.

Working with Adobe Audition

In a Project panel, select a sequence containing audio. You can also select a clip in the Timeline or right-click the clip or sequence in the Project panel.

Select Edit > Edit in Adobe Audition and then Sequence from the submenu.

Editing Sequences in Adobe Audition

When edit a sequence in Audition, Premiere sends the currently selected sequence with rendered audio for further compositing to Audition. The sequence opens in Audition as a Multitrack session.

To send a Premiere sequence to Audition, follow these steps:

Select Edit > Edit in Adobe Audition > Sequence. The Edit in Adobe Audition dialog box appears.

Use the options available in the Edit in Adobe Audition dialog box to specify how the sequence is transferred, including which content is sent and the audio/render settings used for the export.

  • Name: Name of the generated project (defaults to the sequence name which will be sent to Audition).
  • Path: Path of the generated project.
  • Selection: Determines the portion of the sequence to export based on the option selected – Entire Sequence and Sequence In/Out.
  • Video:
    • Send through Dynamic Link: The dynamic link feature lets you stream video from Premiere to Audition without rendering. When you send Premiere projects to Audition using this option, you can view the video in its native resolution within Audition.
    • Export DV Preview Video: One file containing the video in the sequence is rendered for Audition.
    • None: No video is created or available in Audition.
  • Audio Handles: Audio Handles refer to the content of the clip beyond the clip boundaries. If the clip in the sequence has a length of 10 seconds and Audio Handles is set to 1 second, the rendered file will have a duration of 12 seconds with 1 second being added to the start and end.

Select OK

Premiere creates a project containing only the selected sequence and its audio clips. All audio material of the sequence is extracted and copied to the destination path, leading to a self-contained Premiere project with no dependencies to the source project, except if Video: Send Through Dynamic Link was selected.

Audition launches and opens the exported sequence automatically if the Open in Adobe Audition checkbox was checked.
