Create a dynamically linked composition

Last updated on Apr 2, 2026

Learn to use Dynamic Link to create After Effects compositions directly from Adobe Premiere clips.

Creating a new dynamically linked composition from Adobe Premiere launches Adobe After Effects. After Effects then creates a project and a composition that uses the dimensions, pixel aspect ratio, frame rate, and audio sample rate of the original project. If After Effects is already open, it creates the composition in the current project. The new composition name is based on the Premiere or Encore project name, followed by Linked Comp [x].

Select File > Adobe Dynamic Link > New After Effects Composition.

Enter a name and location for the After Effects project in the After Effects > Save As dialog box and select Save if the dialog appears.

When you create a dynamically linked After Effects composition, its duration is set to 30 seconds by default. To change the duration, select the composition in After Effects, then choose Composition > Composition Settings. Open the Basic tab and enter a new value for Duration.
