Apply effects to Source clips

Last updated on Apr 1, 2026

Learn how to apply effects to source clips so every sequence instance of the clip inherits the same adjustments in Adobe Premiere.

When you apply an effect to a source clip in the Project panel, the effect becomes part of the clip’s source properties. Any sequence clip created from that source automatically inherits those changes, making it easy to apply consistent corrections or looks across multiple uses of the same media.

In the Project panel, select the source clip you want to modify.

Open the Effect Controls panel (Window > Effect Controls) and make sure the Source tab is active.

In the Effects panel, search for the effect you want to apply.

Drag the effect onto the selected source clip in the Project panel, or double-click the effect to apply it.

Adjust the effect’s settings in the Source view of the Effect Controls panel.
