Import Photoshop files into Premiere

Last updated on Apr 2, 2026

Use layered or flattened PSD files in your Adobe Premiere video projects, offering customizable import options.

Create or prepare your image in Adobe Photoshop for use in a video.

Select File > New and then select a Film & Video preset in the New File dialog box to size the PSD correctly for your video output.

Optionally, create a PSD directly from Premiere by choosing File > New > Photoshop File.

Save the file as a PSD to preserve quality and layers.

Select File > Import in Premiere.

Select how to import the file from the Import As menu in the Import Layered File dialog box.

Select whether to import the file as a flattened image or separate layers, depending on how you plan to edit it.

Add the imported file or layers to your timeline and continue editing your video.

Note

Photoshop provides precise control for masks, graphics, and text design, so preparing the still image before importing helps reduce rendering time.
