Export OMF files for Pro Tools

Last updated on Apr 1, 2026

Learn how to export OMF files so you can transfer audio from Adobe Premiere to Pro Tools for final editing.

Use the OMF format to transfer clip-based audio, keyframes, transitions, and metadata from your sequence to Pro Tools. OMF exports can include full audio files or trimmed segments with handles, depending on your post-production workflow.

Note

The OMF files exported by Premiere are not officially supported for platforms other than ProTools. Premiere does not import OMF files.

In the Timeline, select the sequence you want to export.

Select File > Export > OMF to open the OMF Export Settings dialog.

OMF Export Settings dialog displaying settings for audio embedding, sample rate, bit depth, and clip trimming options.
Customize audio settings in the OMF Export Settings dialog to prepare your sequence for a smooth handoff to Pro Tools.

Enter a name in OMF Title, then choose the Sample Rate and Bits Per Sample required for your Pro Tools session.

Under Files, select Embedded Audio to include all audio inside a single OMF file, or Separate Audio to export individual audio files in a folder.

Under Render, select Copy Complete Audio Files to export full clips, or Trim Audio Files to export only used portions and set the number of Handle Frames you want.

Select OK and save the OMF file.

Open Pro Tools and import the OMF using DigiTranslator to complete your session setup.
