Learn to add a synchronized countdown in Adobe Premiere to check playback, add professionalism, and ensure your sequence settings match.

If you're creating film output from a sequence, add a counting leader to check sync and playback. You can create and customize an 11-second universal leader for the start of your project.

Select Window > Projects and then select the project you want to open.

In the Project panel, select the New Item icon at the lower-right of the Project panel and then select Universal Counting Leader.

Set Width, Height, Timebase, Pixel Aspect Ratio, and Sample Rate to match your sequence settings in the New Universal Counting Leader dialog box.

Select OK.

Adjust the options in the Universal Counting Leader Setup dialog box:

  • Wipe Color: Set the color for the circular one-second wipe area.
  • Background Color: Select the color behind the wipe.
  • Line Color: Select a color for horizontal and vertical lines.
  • Target Color: Select a color for double circles around the numeral.
  • Numeral Color: Select a color for the countdown numeral.
  • Cue Blip on out: Select to show a cue circle in the last frame of the leader.
  • Cue Blip on 2: Select to play a beep at the two-second mark (also called a two-pop).
  • Cue Blip at all Second Starts: Select to play a beep at the start of each second during the leader.

Select OK to add the leader to your project.

Double-click the counting leader at any time to further customize it.

Add the counting leader to your sequence by dragging it from the Project panel to the start of the timeline.
