Find all available overlay settings for displaying metadata on Source Monitor and Program Monitor in Adobe Premiere.

When customizing monitor overlays or troubleshooting metadata display issues, refer to these settings to understand which options control overlay appearance and behavior. Use this reference to verify available overlay types, adjust display properties, or configure preset parameters.

Available overlay metadata types

The following metadata can be displayed as overlays on Source Monitor and Program Monitor:

Metadata Type

Description

Source Timecode

Displays the timecode value for the original source clip, with video tracks denoted as V1, V2, V3 and audio tracks as A1, A2, A3

Sequence Timecode

Shows the timecode position within the current sequence

Marker Comments

Displays clip marker and sequence marker comments concatenated to the marker name

Sequence Clip Name

Shows the name of the clip as it appears in the sequence

Project Clip Name

Displays the clip's name in the Project panel

File Name

Shows the original filename of the media

Edit Point Indicators

Yellow angular brackets appear at the bottom edge when the playhead is on an In or Out point

End Of Media/Sequence Indicators

Purple frame appears along the right edge when playhead goes past the last frame; striped column appears at clip boundaries

Multi-Camera Sources

Displays camera angles as track names, clip names, or camera numbers in Multi-Camera View

Sound Timecode

Updates with each frame like standard timecode

Sound Roll

Static value that does not update during playback

Displays overlays on monitor while footage plays

Safe margin settings

Action safe and title safe areas define visible boundaries for television playback.

Action Safe Area

Determines the portion of video image displayed on television screens during playback

Title Safe Area

Restricts titles and text to ensure they are not hidden or clipped on television

Include 4:3 Safe Margin

Adds visual indicators for 4:3 aspect ratio boundaries

Horizontal Control

Adjusts horizontal safe margin percentage

Vertical Control

Adjusts vertical safe margin percentage

Multi-Camera View limitations

When working in Multi-Camera View mode, the overlay display is limited to two metadata properties selected in the Overlay Settings dialog. For example, you can simultaneously display Camera Name and Source Timecode, but not additional metadata types.

Preset file format

Overlay presets are saved with the .olp filename extension and contain all customized overlay settings, including metadata selection, text size, opacity, and placement configuration.

Note

Overlays display only when the monitor is in Composite Video display mode. Overlays are not visible in other display modes.
