Import XML files from Final Cut Pro X

Last updated on Apr 2, 2026

Learn how to export projects, selected clips, or selected sequences from Final Cut Pro X to a supported format in Premiere.

Final Cut Pro X exports a .fcpxml file format that Premiere cannot directly import. To bring your Final Cut Pro X projects into Premiere, you need to convert these files to a standard XML format that Premiere can recognize.

Before you begin:

Make sure you have the XtoCC conversion tool and have exported your project from Final Cut Pro X as a .fcpxml file.

Import the converted XML into Premiere

Export the FCP X project as an XML file.

For more information, review the Final Cut Pro documentation.

Convert the XML file into something Premiere can read using the XtoCC tool.

In Premiere, select File > Import.

Navigate to the location of your converted XML file.

Select the XML file and then select Open.

If prompted with any import options, select the appropriate settings and then select OK.

Not all elements from Final Cut Pro X projects will translate perfectly to Premiere, certain complex effects, transitions, and third-party plugins may not transfer correctly. Review the complete list of supported and unsupported elements to ensure all media is linked correctly and the edit points are accurate.
