Learn how to use the Firefly video editor to remove background from video clips.
Firefly video editor is a beta feature in Adobe Firefly, now available for testing and feedback.
The Remove background feature identifies one or more subjects in the first frame of the selected portion of the clip and then consistently removes the background throughout the clip, preserving the subjects.
Select the video clip in the timeline, and then in the Properties panel, turn on the Remove background toggle. You can check the progress in the Remove background section of the Properties panel. Once the process completes:
- The new clip replaces the original on the canvas.
- The original clip in the timeline shows on its end, indicating that Remove background was applied to it.
Note
- You can also right-click the video clip in the timeline and then select Remove background.
- If you trimmed the video clip, Remove background still removes the background from the entire clip, but uses the first frame within the trim for subject selection.
To compare the new clip with the original, turn the Remove background toggle on and off in the Properties panel.
To download the new clip as an MP4 file, select Download in the upper-right corner of the page.
You can modify the new clip in the timeline or adjust the video properties like any other clip.
