Learn how to remove the background from your images or photos and add a new background to them in Adobe Firefly.

The Remove background tool isolates the subject by removing the background, allowing you to place it against a newly designed background, a colored backdrop, or an entirely different scene.

Try it in the app
Remove background from an image in a few simple steps.

On the Firefly homepage, select Image from the left panel, and then select Edit image.

In the Edit tab, select Upload or Adobe cloud storage to open a photo from your computer or Creative Cloud storage. You can also use an already edited image or a previously generated image.

Tip

For better results, upload a photo or image in JPEG, PNG, and WEBP formats up to 50 MB.

Select Remove background   from the left side bar to remove the background portion from the image.

Add a new background of your choice using the Prompt tool or edit further using the Fill and Upscale tools.

After completing your image edits, select Download to save the image to your device. Alternatively, select Share to copy the image or open it in Photoshop on the web or Adobe Express.

Note

If you download the image immediately after removing its background, it's saved as a transparent PNG file.
