Create single word captions

Last updated on Jun 17, 2026

Learn how to create animated captions that display one word at a time for faster-paced, social-first content in Adobe Premiere.

Single word captioning displays one word at a time on screen, creating a quick, punchy style for fast-paced video content. You can create single word captions directly from your transcript using the Create Captions dialog and customize their appearance before exporting.

Select Window > Workspaces > Captions and Graphics.

If you haven't already transcribed your video, select Transcribe sequence in the Text panel and wait for the transcript to complete.

In the Text panel, go to the Captions tab and select Create captions from transcript.

In the Create Captions dialog, expand Captioning Preferences.

Under Layout, select Single Word.

Create captions dialog with Single Word layout selected in the caption settings.
Choose Single Word in the caption layout settings to create captions that display one word at a time.

Adjust any other settings as needed (preset, format, style, timing), then select Create captions.

Premiere generates a caption track where each caption contains a single word, placed in sync with the spoken audio.

Tip

Single word captions use the same styling tools as standard captions. Customize caption styles by adjusting text properties like font, color, and alignment to match your creative vision.
