Deploy and manage updates with RUM
Learn how to use RUM to automate update deployment across client machines.
RUM enables administrators to deploy updates for Adobe applications installed through Admin Console packages without requiring manual updates on individual devices.
Before you begin
Ensure that:
- An Adobe package is already deployed on the target machine.
- RUM is installed on the client machine.
- You have administrative privileges on the client machine.
- Adobe applications are closed before running RUM.
- Client machines can access Adobe Update Server or your AUSST server.
RUM is installed at C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE_Enterprise\RemoteUpdateManager (Windows) and /usr/local/bin (macOS). On macOS, run RUM commands using sudo.
Install updates
Navigate to the RUM installation directory.
Run the following commands to download and install all available updates:
- Windows: RemoteUpdateManager
- macOS: sudo RemoteUpdateManager
Monitor the console output to confirm successful deployment.
Download updates for later installation
Open Terminal (macOS) or Command Prompt (Windows) as an administrator.
Navigate to the RUM installation directory.
Run RemoteUpdateManager --action=download to retrieve updates without installing them.
Verify in the console output that downloads completed successfully.
After downloading the updates, run RemoteUpdateManager --action=install to install the downloaded updates.
The --action parameter doesn't apply to Acrobat and Reader. These applications install immediately after downloading regardless of the action specified.
Update specific applications
Identify the SAP code and version for the application to update.
Open Terminal (macOS) or Command Prompt (Windows) as an administrator.
Run the command:
- To update all versions of Illustrator: RemoteUpdateManager --productVersions=ILST
- To update Illustrator version 25 only: RemoteUpdateManager --productVersions=ILST#25.0
- To update all Photoshop versions: RemoteUpdateManager --productVersions=PHSP
Review the console output to confirm the update applied to the specified application.
Apply updates for Acrobat and Reader
Before updating Acrobat or Reader, verify that the client machine meets the required version prerequisites.
Verify Acrobat Updater version on macOS
The Acrobat Updater version must be 1.0.14 or later.
Open Terminal.
Run the following command:
defaults read "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/ARMDC/Application/Acrobat Update Helper.app/Contents/Info" CFBundleVersion
If the updater version is earlier than 1.0.14, install the latest updater package:
sudo installer -pkg <path to downloaded .pkg file> -target /
Verify supported versions on Windows
Ensure that Acrobat or Reader is running one of the following versions:
- Classic track: 15.006.30279 or later
- Continuous track: 15.023.20053 or later
Acrobat and Reader updates can be applied even if the Creative Cloud desktop app is not installed on the client machine.
Configure proxy server access
Obtain your proxy server username and password from your network administrator.
Open Terminal (macOS) or Command Prompt (Windows) as an administrator.
Run RemoteUpdateManager --proxyUserName=<username> --proxyPassword=<password>
Check the console output to verify RUM connected through the proxy.
