Set packaging preferences

Last updated on Aug 3, 2026

Configure notifications, update server, and install directory settings for your deployment packages.

Package preferences in the Adobe Admin Console control how you receive notifications, where updates are sourced, and where apps install on client machines. These settings apply to you as the logged-in admin and to the packages you create.

Configure preferences

Any preferences you set apply only to you and the packages you create. Other admins in your organization maintain their own preference settings. You can configure the following preferences for your packages:

  • Notifications
  • Adobe Genuine Services (AGS)
  • Internal update server
  • Custom install directory

Note

Package preferences are local to the logged in Admin. That means, any preferences that you set, apply to you and the packages that you create.

Configure notifications

Control whether you receive email notifications when new product versions become available.

Sign in to the Admin Console.

Select Packages > Preferences.

In the Notifications section, select or deselect the notification box to enable or disable email alerts.

Select Available application versions to display app versions that no longer receive security or feature updates.

While creating packages, select Show older versions in the Choose Apps screen.

While Adobe fully supports the latest version of apps, support for older versions is limited. Creative Cloud for enterprise plans includes a designated LTS version that receives security updates. Adobe recommends creating packages with the latest or LTS versions. See the Creative Cloud Support policy  for details on support coverage for older app versions.

Configure Adobe Genuine Service preferences

The Adobe Genuine Service (AGS) verifies that Adobe apps on client machines are genuine and notifies users if they are not. Using non-genuine Adobe software increases security risks, including exposure to viruses and malware, and may cause software to malfunction.

Go to Preferences, select or clear the notification box to enable or disable email alerts.

In Adobe Genuine Service (AGS), select the checkbox to install AGS with any new packages you create.

Use this preference to ensure AGS is installed on your client machines as part of package installation.

  • AGS will only be installed with named user and shared device license packages.
  • If you deselect this option and create and deploy a package to a machine where AGS is already installed, previously installed versions of AGS is automatically uninstalled. Learn how to uninstall AGS.

Configure internal update server

Point client packages to your internal update server and set fallback behavior if that server becomes unavailable. Learn how to configure an internal update server for packages.

Specify custom install directory

If the apps in your packages support custom install directories, specify the directory path where you want packages to install these apps. Learn more about how to create Managed packages.

The directory path must be absolute. For Windows deployments, include the drive letter (for example, C:\folder path). You cannot use any characters that Windows does not support when creating a folder (for example, < > : " / \ | ? *).

Note

Adobe Acrobat does not support custom install directories.
