Manage user access to custom fonts

Last updated on Aug 3, 2026

Learn how to assign users to custom fonts, set profile permissions, and manage the Adobe Express font picker.

After you upload custom fonts, you can manage access to custom fonts to control which Creative Cloud users in your organization can access uploaded fonts. Use the Admin Console to assign users to custom fonts and manage permissions through product profiles so users can access the fonts they need across supported Adobe applications.

Assign users to custom fonts

Use the Admin Console to assign users to custom fonts. Assigned users can see and use them in supported apps and Creative Cloud desktop-enabled devices.

Custom Fonts is a product like any other in the Admin Console, so you assign users to it the same way. See assign users to a product, and select Custom Fonts as the product and the appropriate product profile.

The user receives a notification email once you save the assignment.

Manage permissions using product profiles

Set permissions for specific fonts and deploy them to different product profiles, so each group gets only the fonts they need. For example, give your visual designers a profile that includes only your logo fonts.

If you don't already have a profile to assign specific fonts to, create a product profile and select Custom Fonts as the product.

On the product profile page, go to Permissions and set permissions for custom fonts under various profiles. Each uploaded font appears as an item you can include or exclude for that profile.

Note

Only the users assigned to the specific profile will be able to use custom fonts under that profile.

Enable or Disable Adobe Express Custom Fonts

Users can bring their own fonts into Adobe Express and add them to the font picker. This is enabled by default, but you can disable it using Product Profiles. Learn how end users add custom fonts in Adobe Express.

If you're updating the setting for an existing product profile:

Sign in to the Admin Console and go to the Products tab.

Select the View details icon next to the profile name.

In the details drawer, scroll to User Font Upload.

This option is enabled by default. Turn it off, or turn it back on if it was previously disabled.

If you're applying the setting when creating a new product profile:

On the Products tab, select the product and go to Product profiles.

Select New Profile.

Enter the Profile name and other required details, then select Next.

Specify the license quota for the profile.

On the Enable Services screen, scroll down to User Font Upload.

This option is enabled by default. Turn it off if needed.

Alert

If you disable this feature, the Upload button in Adobe Express will be unavailable to your users. Users who have already uploaded fonts retain access to them but can't upload new ones.

How users access custom fonts

When you assign users to custom fonts, they receive an email notifying them of their access. Custom fonts can be used in supported apps and on Creative Cloud desktop-enabled devices.

Note

Users must update the Creative Cloud desktop app to version 5.3 or later to access custom fonts.

Enterprise users can access two types of fonts through the Creative Cloud desktop app:

Active fonts

Active fonts come from the Adobe Fonts service. End users activate or deactivate them for use across Adobe and other desktop apps. Enterprise users currently can't add their own fonts to Creative Cloud. See how to use Adobe Fonts in Creative Cloud apps.

Custom fonts

Custom fonts are fonts shared by an administrator for users within the organization. These fonts can only be added and shared through Creative Cloud by enterprise administrators.

To view custom fonts, users must open the Creative Cloud desktop app and select the Custom fonts tab.

Note

If fonts don't appear immediately, users should sign out and sign back in to the Creative Cloud desktop app, or use Ctrl + Alt + R (Windows) or Command + Option + R (macOS) to relaunch the app.
