Customize using managed packages

Last updated on Aug 3, 2026

Learn how to perform the custom deployment using managed packages.

The customization options set by the admin on the Adobe Admin Console during package deployment are applied to all end-users’ machines. By default, when creating and deploying the packages to end-user computers, the Creative Cloud desktop app is installed. The following Creative Cloud desktop options are available to customize the packages.

Enable self-service install

Use Enable self-service install to control whether users in this product profile can self-install apps and updates. When Enable self-service install isn't selected, the Apps and Discover panels are hidden from users, and they are not able to install or update apps on their own. The You don't have access to manage apps message is displayed in the Apps.

Additionally, if you allow users to install apps and updates, you can also choose to show or hide older versions of apps in the Creative Cloud desktop app.

Select or deselect the self-service install option to limit installation downloads.
Control whether users can install and update apps.

End-user experience

  • Download, install, and update your apps through the App
  • Choose fonts from Adobe Fonts foundries.
  • Organize and share your files in the Files tab.
  • Change the install language, launch settings, auto-update options, and notifications.

Allow non-admins to update and install apps

Selecting Allow non-admins to update and install apps allows users to install and update apps even if they don’t have administrative privileges. For this, you should select both options: Enable self-service install and Allow non-admins to update and install apps.

Selecting Enable self-service install and Allow non-admins to update and install apps options allows the non admin users to install the apps directly.
Select both options to grant app installation permissions to non-admin users.

Note

The Allow non-admins to update and install apps option is available only when you choose the Enable self-service install option.

Disable auto-update for end-users

The Auto-update option lets end users choose which apps they want auto-updated on their machines as soon as Adobe releases an update. To prevent users from enabling app auto-update, select Disable auto-update for end-users.

The screen displays the Disable auto-update for end-users option to prevent auto app updates.
Select the checkbox to prevent end users from auto-updating apps.

Enable self-service plugin install

Admins can add plugins when creating a managed package. These plugins are available in the Creative Cloud desktop app.

Enable self-service plugin install to allow users to install and update plugins from the Marketplace.

Plugins deployed through a package can't be modified or removed by users. You must create and install an update package to manage the plugins installed from packages. Plugins installed via a managed package can only be uninstalled using the Extension Manager Command-line tool.

If the option is deselected, users can only uninstall plugins that were not installed using a managed package. They can't browse or install new plugins. Users must relaunch or sign in again for changes to take effect.

The screen displays the Creative Cloud desktop options to Enable self-service plugin install.
Verify the plugin installation methods before managing them.

End-user experience

As an end user, you can browse extensions, plugins, scripts, and more to enhance your creativity and extend Creative Cloud app functionality. Learn how to install extensions and add-ons for Adobe apps.

The screen displays the browsing of the marketplace tab for plugins, scripts and more to extend functionality.

Disable file syncing

By default, file syncing is enabled; however, as an Admin, you can disable it on your end users' computers by selecting Disable file syncing. This is useful when you are deploying packages in a test environment. For example, if you're testing deployment scenarios, you don't need to sync a potentially large number of files across devices. This option is intended primarily for testing and deployment validation scenarios. For most production environments, keep file syncing enabled.

The Disable file syncing options prevents the auto syncing of files.
Leave this option deselected to keep file syncing enabled for users.

End-user experience

If file sync is enabled (default): Users can preview many creative asset types directly in a web browser on their computer, tablet, or smartphone. These asset types include Adobe Fonts and file formats such as PSD, AI, INDD, JPG, PDF, GIF, PNG, Photoshop Touch, and many others.

Navigate to Files > Your files to browse your assets. Learn how to browse, sync, and manage assets.

If file sync is disabled: Most of the assets on users’ computers are not synchronized across devices. Adobe Fonts will continue to sync.

Enable browser-based login

By default, users sign in through the Creative Cloud desktop app after deployment to access Adobe products and services. Admin can select the Enable browser-based login option to redirect users to sign in through their default browser.

Note

If you have users who have previously deployed packages, they can sign in directly via the Creative Cloud desktop app. This functionality is available in versions 5.7 or later of the Creative Cloud desktop app. So, your users can either update the Creative Cloud desktop app or create and deploy a package with only the latest version of the app.

End user experience

If users aren't signed in when they launch the Creative Cloud desktop app, they're redirected to their default browser to authenticate. After signing in, they return to the Creative Cloud desktop app.

A browser screen titled You're all set confirms the user successfully signed in.
A confirmation message is displayed on successful browser-based sign-in.

Enable install of beta apps

While creating and deploying packages, Admin can select Enable install of beta apps for end users to install and update beta apps using the Beta tab in the Creative Cloud Desktop application.

The screen displays an option to upgrade bata apps for end users.
User access to some beta apps may remain restricted unless a product policy is configured.

Note

To make the Photoshop beta available to enterprise users, create a product policy with the Make updates available 30 days option enabled. Learn how to manage self-service policies.
