Adobe Asset Link Overview

Learn about the Adobe Asset Link plugin in Creative Cloud for enterprise apps, such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

If you're a creative professional or marketer, use Adobe Asset Link in your Creative Cloud desktop apps to streamline collaboration as you create content. Connect with Adobe Experience Manager Assets through the Adobe Asset Link panel in your familiar apps, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, to access and modify content stored in Experience Manager Assets without leaving your Creative Cloud apps.

Supported apps and versions

Adobe Asset Link is available in two forms:

• Asset Link UXP for Photoshop: a UXP plugin for Photoshop 2025 that requires Photoshop version 26.11 (September 2025) or newer. macOS users can run Photoshop in the default native Apple Silicon mode without relying on Rosetta to access the newest Photoshop capabilities with native stability and performance. Windows users can also use the plugin.
• Asset Link CEP: the CEP extension for Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign (2022, 2023, and 2024 releases).

Adobe Asset Link supports these Experience Manager Assets deployments:

• Experience Manager as a Cloud Service with any Assets license (Assets Ultimate, Assets Prime, Assets as a Cloud Service, and Assets Essentials).
• Experience Manager 6.4 and 6.5 with the latest service packs.

You are automatically connected to any cloud-based Experience Manager Assets environment you're entitled to. All environments you can access appear in the Manage environments view of Adobe Asset Link, where you can switch between environments or modify them.

Capabilities

Adobe Asset Link includes the following capabilities:

• Relink missing links in InDesign: automatically relink other missing assets from the same  Adobe Experience Manager folder, matched by filename, to reduce manual relinking.
• My pinned items to quickly access frequently visited folders.
• Stack view for larger, high-resolution asset thumbnails.
• Refresh Links.
• Place Linked with Options, with support for multiple file formats, such as PDF, AI, PSD, and PNG.
• Replace broken links in InDesign documents after migrating assets to Experience Manager Assets.
• Upload assets from your local system to synchronized cloud storage (such as OneDrive) directly, if your device is synced with cloud storage.
• Performance enhancements for the Relink with Experience Manager feature.
• Support for Experience Manager Assets Essentials, and automatic connection with cloud-based environments such as Experience Manager Assets as a Cloud Service and Assets Essentials.
• Support for ARM devices, and for business storage for teams and enterprise accounts.
• Support for current Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign releases (2023 and later).
• Localization updates for search filters and CJK characters.
• Improved support for corporate proxies and SSL web filters. Supported proxy types are No auth (no authentication required) and Basic auth (requires a username and password). For more, see Proxy support in Creative Cloud products.

Prerequisites

Creative Cloud prerequisites

• One or more valid Creative Cloud for enterprise or Creative Cloud for teams subscriptions (full Creative Cloud or Single App plans) for Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign, with:
• Named User Licensing.
• Creative Cloud storage and services enabled.
• For Asset Link UXP for Photoshop: Photoshop desktop app version 26.11 (September 2025) or newer.
• For Asset Link CEP: Creative Cloud desktop apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) released in 2024, 2023, or 2022.
• An Adobe enterprise identity type: Enterprise ID, Federated ID (single sign-on), or Business ID.
• Subscriptions purchased through VIP or ETLA buying programs are both supported. Learn more.

Experience Manager prerequisites

• Experience Manager as a Cloud Service with an Assets license (at least one of Assets Ultimate, Assets Prime, Assets as a Cloud Service, or Assets Essentials).
• Experience Manager Assets 6.5 with the latest service packs.
• Experience Manager Assets 6.4 with the latest service packs.
• An Experience Manager Assets license (including customers with the Assets add-on), with Adobe Managed Services or on-premise deployments.

Install the Asset Link UXP plugin for Photoshop

Go to Creative Cloud desktop app > Stock & Marketplace > Plugins, then All plugins. Enter Adobe Asset Link UXP in the search bar and select Photoshop in the Apps filter. After you acquire and install the plugin, open Adobe Photoshop 2025 and go to Windows > Plugins > Adobe Asset Link UXP to access the plugin.

Differences in the Asset Link UXP plugin for Photoshop

Compared with the CEP extension, the Asset Link UXP plugin for Photoshop differs in the following ways:

• You can suppress the check-in comment dialog to make check-in faster. Select the panel menu, select Preferences, and turn off Capture check-in comments.
• The Download action is renamed Open, which better describes the action of downloading and opening the asset in Photoshop.
• Dragging and dropping to place an asset from the panel into the current document is not supported in the UXP framework. Use the Place copy action instead.
• The UXP plugin stores checked-out assets in a different location from the CEP extension. If you used the CEP plugin for Photoshop, check in all files there before you start using the UXP plugin. The UXP storage locations are:

macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/UXP/PluginsStorage/PHSP/26/Internal/com.adobe.assetlink.uxp/PluginData

Windows: ~\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\UXP\PluginsStorage\PHSP\26\Internal\com.adobe.assetlink.uxp\PluginData

Set up Adobe Asset Link

Set up Adobe Asset Link for your creative users in four steps.

1. Create a user group. In the Admin Console, where your Creative Cloud for enterprise entitlements reside, create a user group and add your creative users. See Manage user groups and Add users for the steps. For Adobe Asset Link, also ensure the following:
   • Users must have a Business ID, Enterprise ID, or Federated ID account, and a supported Creative Cloud for enterprise plan with storage and services enabled.
   • You can create user groups if you have the System administrator, Product administrator, or Product profile administrator role.
2. Configure Experience Manager Assets. To let users access assets stored in Experience Manager Assets from their Creative Cloud apps, configure and fine-tune Experience Manager Assets. To let InDesign communicate with Experience Manager Assets, add the InDesign Client ID to your Experience Manager Assets environment. Learn more.
3. Install Adobe Asset Link. Generate the Adobe Asset Link extension using the Packages workflow in the Adobe Admin Console, then install it. Depending on the deployment type, Creative Cloud users are automatically connected to an Experience Manager environment, or an administrator configures it for them. Learn more.
4. Use Adobe Asset Link. You're ready to use Adobe Asset Link with Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign. To open the panel in InDesign or Illustrator, go to Windows > Extensions > Adobe Asset Link. In Photoshop, go to Window > Extensions (legacy) > Adobe Asset Link. Learn how to manage assets.
