Property release overview

Learn when and how to submit a property release for photos of buildings, interiors, objects, or artwork to meet Adobe Stock Contributor guidelines.

For any recognizable private property, artwork, or location featured in your content, Contributors have to submit a property release form. Adobe Stock requires a property release to ensure you have permission to use private or protected property in your content. This protects you, Adobe, and our customers from legal implications and allows your content to be eligible for commercial use.

The property release form must be signed by the property owner or a corporate representative if the property is owned by a company.

Before uploading the completed release, review the detailed checklist to confirm you’ve included all required information.

Content that requires property release

If your content depicts recognizable places, buildings, artwork, vehicles, pets, or other owned and private property, you must obtain permission from the property owner before submitting it to Adobe Stock. Property owners grant this permission by signing a property release.

Here are some examples of submissions that need property releases:

  • Physical or digital artwork depicting a fictitious person.
  • Famous landmarks, historic locations, and modern architecture.
  • Copyrighted works such as art, books, and maps.
  • Identifiable exteriors or interiors of private homes and buildings.
  • Distinctive product shapes like toys, bottles, luxury furniture, vehicles, and airplanes.
  • Unique animals, such as racehorses, famous pets, and certain zoo animals.
  • Properties with photography policies, which may include stadiums, museums, concert venues, and amusement parks.
Tip

When in doubt, obtain a property release or consider editing the image to omit protected elements.
