Legal requirements for video template submissions

Last updated on Jun 11, 2026

Learn about the ownership, licensing, and rights requirements for template content before submission.

Review these legal requirements before packaging and uploading video templates to ensure your content meets Adobe Stock's legal standards.

All assets embedded in video templates, including images, videos, illustrations, graphics, and text, must comply with the intellectual property laws governing copyright, trademark, privacy, and publicity rights.

Ownership and licensing requirement

Refer to the following ownership and licensing requirements to confirm that all visual and audio elements included in a video template meet Adobe Stock’s legal standards and allow unrestricted use within submitted templates.

Requirement

Explanation

Full ownership

All rights to every visual and audio element included in the template must be fully owned, including any required licenses and releases.

No stock content

Images, videos, or graphics licensed from any stock platform, including Adobe Stock, other commercial stock sites, or microstock libraries, are not permitted because stock licenses prohibit redistribution.

No CC0 or public domain

Creative Commons Zero (CC0) and public domain images are generally not permitted because they require full ownership of all rights, not just permission to use the content.

NASA imagery exception

NASA CC0 images may be used exclusively for maps, globes, and textures if "NASA" appears in the template title.

Model and property releases

Templates that include recognizable people or identifiable property require the same release documentation as standalone Adobe Stock content:

  • Model releases: Applied when identifiable individuals appear in images or video footage embedded in the template.
  • Property releases: Applied when recognizable locations, artwork, branded objects, or private property are visible within the template.

Refer to model release requirements and property release requirements for guidance on requirements and submission.

Text and name restrictions

Ensure all placeholder text is fictitious and generic to avoid intellectual property issues:

  • Prohibited: Real names of identifiable people, actual company names, recognizable brand references, specific street addresses, or location names.
  • Required: Generic placeholders such as "Your Company," "John Smith," "123 Street City," or standard lorem ipsum text.

When referencing specific platforms in mobile or web templates, use phrases like 'for Facebook' or 'for iPhone' and avoid implying endorsement.

Note

Avoid showing brand names on objects in mockups. Use generic, unbranded device representations.

Spam and similarity policies

Submitting multiple copies of similar or nearly identical templates violates Adobe Stock submission guidelines and may result in account suspension.

Focus on variety and value instead of volume. Ensure each template offers distinct design elements, layouts, or use cases. Learn more about submitting distinct content.

Legal compliance scope

The following restrictions align with areas of law, including:

  • Rights of privacy and publicity
  • Copyright protection
  • Trademark and trade dress law
  • Redistribution and sublicensing restrictions
