Grayscale Conversion

In: Atomic Nodes

Simple

Description

The Grayscale Conversion node simply converts a Color input to a Grayscale output, with a few user-set parameters.

It serves as the opposite of the Gradient Map Node, but does not have an extra usecases.

While this may seem like a very-often used node at first, it isn't used as often as Gradient Map: it is recommended to work in Grayscale as much as possible in the application, as well as to start most Graphs in Grayscale. Additionally, most nodes can be set to output in either Grayscale or Color, where the former is preferred for simplicity and performance reasons. This means that a Grayscale conversion node is generally only reserved for case where you specifically want to convert a color image to Grayscale. In those cases also take a look at Grayscale Conversion Advanced and Color To Mask.

Parameters

  • Channels Weights: 0-1
Sets the weight of each of the RGBA channels on the conversion to grayscale. By default the split is even between the RGB channels.
  • Flatten Alpha: True/False
Sets the behaviour of the Alpha on the final Grayscale result (as Grayscale values can not contain Alpha information).
  • Background Value: 0-1
Sets the base background value when the input has an alpha mask.
