Learn how to create duplicate objects using the Offset Path option or the arrow keys.

Offset objects using the Offset Path

Select one or more objects using the Selection tool.

Select Object > Path > Offset Path.

Specify the Offset, Joins, and Miter limit in the Offset Path dialog box.
The Illustrator canvas shows a selected butterfly artwork and the Offset Path dialog box, which includes options for Offset (set to 10 px), Joins (set to Miter), and Miter limit (set to 4). This dialog is used to create a duplicate path offset inward or outward from the original shape.
Set the offset value to position the duplicate object inward or outward in the Offset Path dialog box.

Offset objects using the keyboard

Select one or more objects using the Selection tool.

Press and hold Option (macOS) or Alt (Windows), and then press an arrow key to duplicate and move the object in that direction.

Note

The object moves based on the Keyboard Increment value set in Preferences > General.

If an object doesn't duplicate, ensure the Keyboard Increment preference value isn't zero.

To convert a mesh object to a path, apply an Offset Path with a zero value and delete the mesh shape.
