Use the Layers panel to modify artwork in a few simple steps.

Select Window > Layers.

In the Layers panel, select the name of a layer or group.

To release each item to a new layer, select Release to Layers (Sequence) from the Layers panel menu .

To release objects into layers and duplicate them to create a cumulative sequence, select Release to Layers (Build) from the Layers panel menu .

For example: Assume Layer 1 contains a circle as the bottommost object, a square, and a triangle as the topmost object. This option creates three layers, one with circle, square, and triangle, one with a circle and square, and one with just a circle. This is useful for creating cumulative animation sequences.

The Layers panel displays artwork in Layer 1 released to multiple sublayers.
Select Release to Layers (Build) to create a cumulative sequence.
