Move objects

Learn how to move objects using different techniques in Illustrator.

You can move objects by dragging them with specific tools, by using the arrow keys on the keyboard, or by entering precise values in a panel or dialog box.

Move an object by dragging

Select one or more objects using the Selection tool.

Drag the object to a new location.

Move an object using the arrow keys

Select one or more objects using the Selection tool.

Press the arrow key for the direction in which you want to move the object. 

Move an object using X and Y coordinates

Select one or more objects using the Selection tool.

Select Window > Transform.

In the Transform panel, enter the values in either X or Y text box, or both.

The Transform panel is displayed on the screen highlighting the settings for moving the objects using X and Y coordinates.
Use the Transform panel to adjust the Rotate and Shear settings.

Tip

To change the Reference Point, select a white square on the Reference Point before entering the values.
