Repeat patterns overview

Last updated on Sep 11, 2025

Repeat patterns help you create complex, editable designs by duplicating objects in radial, grid, or mirror arrangements.

Illustrator on the desktop makes it easy to create and manage repeat patterns. Create your object, choose a repeat type — Radial, Grid, or Mirror, and Illustrator automatically updates all instances when you modify the original object.

Radial Repeat

Radial Repeat duplicates an object around a central point in a circular pattern. You can adjust the number of repeats and rotation angle to create dynamic designs.

To access the Radial Repeat pattern, select Object > Repeat > Radial

Grid Repeat

Grid Repeat arranges objects in a structured layout of rows and columns. This repeat type is ideal for patterns that require consistent spacing and alignment.

To access the Grid Repeat pattern, select Object > Repeat > Grid.

Mirror Repeat

Mirror Repeat reflects objects across a central axis, creating a symmetrical mirrored design. It’s often used for designs that need bilateral symmetry.

To access the Mirror Repeat pattern, select Object > Repeat > Mirror.
