Set grid repeat options

Learn how to set Repeat Options to adjust spacing and arrangement between objects in a grid.

Select the repeated artwork using the Selection tool.

Select Object Repeat Options.

In the Repeat Options dialog, select the Grid tab.

Set the following options in the Repeat Options dialog box:

  • Vertical spacing in grid : Specify the vertical space between objects in the grid.
  • Horizontal spacing in grid: Specify the horizontal space between objects in the grid.
  • Grid Type: Specify the grid type you want to use to arrange objects in rows or columns.
  • Flip Rows: Flip the row in vertical or horizontal directions.
  • Flip Column: Flip the column in vertical or horizontal directions.
The canvas displays grid artwork and the Repeat Options dialog box which has the following options under the Grid tab: Vertical spacing in grid, Horizontal spacing in grid, Grid Type, Flip Rows, Flip Column, and Preview.

Note

Select Preview to view live changes on the artwork.

Select OK.

Modify grid repeat using on-canvas controls

Select the artwork using the Selection tool.

Drag the handle of the repeated artwork downward to add more rows.

Drag the handle side to add more columns.

Drag from the corner of the repeated artwork to increase or decrease the overall size of the grid.

Drag the sliders between the repeated elements to change the spacing within the grid.

A star-shaped repeated pattern is drawn on the artboard of Adobe Illustrator, where the horizontal and vertical sliders are highlighted.
Select the horizontal slider to change spacing horizontally and vertical slider to change spacing vertically.
