Simplify paths advanced options overview

Learn more about the various options available in the Simplify dialog in Adobe Illustrator.

Simplify offers advanced controls to reduce anchor points and refine the appearance of paths. Use these options to streamline complex vector shapes while maintaining visual fidelity.

The Simplify dialog box displays the following options: Simplify curve, Corner Point Angle Threshold, Auto-Simplify, Convert to Straight Lines, Show Original Path, Retain my latest settings and directly open this dialog, and Preview.

Advanced options

Function

Corner Point Angle Threshold 

Controls the smoothness of corner points in a path. Move to the left for smoothness and right for sharpness.

The corner point remains unchanged when the threshold is at the auto-calculated default threshold .

Compare Original and New

Calculates and shows the number of Original and New anchor points when you change the Simplify Curve or Corner Point Angle Threshold value.

Show Original Path

Shows the original path behind the simplified path to preview the difference between the two paths.

Preview

Shows a live preview of the changes you make.

Convert to Straight Lines

Creates straight lines between the object’s original anchor points. 

Retain my latest settings and directly open this dialog

Opens the Simplify dialog directly next time while retaining the current settings.
