Plot radial dimensions of objects

Last updated on Sep 11, 2025

Learn how to plot radial dimensions of objects in Adobe Illustrator to measure and display distances from the center point.

The Radial Dimension tool type lets you easily plot the radius and diameter of circles and perfect arcs that are part of a circle.

Plot the radii and diameters of circles and perfect arcs using the Radial Dimension tool.

Select the Dimension   tool from the toolbar.

Select Radial Dimension from the contextual taskbar that appears.

Hover over the circumference of the circle or arc until a pink radial guide appears. Then, plot the radial dimensions:

  • Radius: Drag outward and then release.
  • Diameter: Drag inward and then release.

To reposition dimension objects, drag the object using the Dimension tool.

To change the settings of a dimension object you’ve plotted, select the dimension object using the Selection tool and make changes in the Properties panel.

When you distort an object, the associated dimensions don’t update automatically.
