Add stylistic sets to selected text

Last updated on Sep 11, 2025

Learn how to add stylistic sets to customize the appearance of selected texts using alternate glyphs.

A stylistic set is a group of glyph alternates defined by the font developer. When you apply a stylistic set, the default glyphs in the selected text are replaced with the alternates. Illustrator may label these sets as Set 1, Set 2, and so on, or use custom names depending on the font. You can apply multiple stylistic sets to a text range.

Select the text box or the range set using the Type tool.

Select Window > Type > OpenType to open the OpenType panel.

Select the Stylistic Sets icon at the lower-right of the panel and select the desired set.
