Edit mesh objects

Learn how to edit mesh objects in Adobe Illustrator.

Select the mesh object using the Mesh tool.

Select anywhere within the mesh object to add a mesh point.

Select and drag existing mesh points using the Mesh tool to reposition them. Press Shift to select multiple anchor points.

Select a mesh point or mesh patch using the Mesh tool.

To apply color to the area between mesh points or mesh patches, select Window > Swatches.

Drag a color from the Swatches panel onto a point or patch to add a fill color.

The Swatches panel is displayed on the screen highlighting different swatches and options such as Swatch Libraries menu, New Swatch Group, and more.
Use the Swatches panel to add a new swatch group.

Edit mesh points

  • To change the color of a mesh point or patch, select an existing mesh point or patch with the Mesh tool, or select a fill color from the Swatches or Color panel.
  • To add a mesh point without changing the current fill color, press Shift while selecting the mesh point.
  • To delete a mesh point, press Alt (Windows) or Option (macOS) and select the mesh point with the Mesh tool.
