Wrap or unwrap text around objects

Last updated on Sep 11, 2025

Learn how to wrap or unwrap text around objects in Illustrator.

You can easily wrap area text around any object, including type objects, imported images, and objects you draw. Make sure your text is an area type placed in the same layer as the wrap object and positioned directly beneath it in the layer hierarchy. If the layer has multiple type objects, move any you don’t want wrapped to another layer or above the wrap object.

Wrap text around an object

Place or draw the object around which you want to wrap the text.

Add a text block using the Type tool.

Right-click the object and then select Arrange > Bring to Front.

Press Shift and select both the object and the text.

Select Object > Text Wrap > Make.

Note

You can select Object > Text Wrap > Text Wrap Options to fine-tune the wrap effect.

Unwrap text around an object

Select the object that has the text wrap applied using the Selection tool.

Select Object > Text Wrap > Release.
