Align graphic objects with guides

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Learn how to create guides, move, delete, or release guides, and snap objects to anchor points or guides.

Guides help you align text and graphic objects. You can create ruler guides (straight vertical or horizontal lines) and guide objects (vector objects converted to guides).

Create guides

Select View > RulersShow Rulers.

Place the pointer on the left ruler for a vertical guide or the top ruler for a horizontal guide.

Drag the guide into position.

Note

To convert vector objects to guides, follow these steps:

Select the objects using the Selection tool.

Select View > Guides > Make Guides.

The View menu is displayed on the screen showcasing various Guides options like Hide Guides, Lock Guides, and more.
Use the View menu to adjust the Rulers settings.

To restrict guides to a specific artboard rather than the entire canvas, select the Artboard tool and drag the guides onto the artboard.

Move, delete, or release guides

Select View Guides > Unlock guides to ensure guides are editable.

Perform any of the following steps as needed:

  • Select and drag the guide to a new position or copy it by pressing Alt (Windows) or Option (macOS) while dragging.
  • Select the guide and press Backspace (Windows) or Delete (macOS) to delete it.
  • Select View > Guides > Clear Guides to delete all guides at once.
  • Select the guides and then select View > Guides > Release Guides to revert them to regular graphic objects.

Snap objects to anchor points or guides

Select View > Snap to Point.

Select the object you want to move using the Selection tool and position the pointer exactly where you want to align with an anchor point or guide.

Drag the object to the desired location.
