Edit text without replacing missing fonts

Learn how to edit text with missing fonts to prevent broken text.

Double-click the text containing the missing fonts.

Select OK in the warning message that appears.

Note

Illustrator will substitute the missing fonts with the default font and highlight the text.

Edit the text.

To remove the highlight from substitute fonts, select Edit > Preferences > Type (Windows) or Illustrator > Settings > Type (macOS).

In the Preferences dialog box, deselect Highlight Substituted Fonts, and then select OK.

The Preferences dialog box displays text modification options under the Type category, with the Highlight Substituted Fonts option highlighted.
