Learn how to cut objects in Adobe Illustrator using the Knife tool.
Use the Knife tool to slice across objects and create custom, editable shapes.
Drag across the object to cut it into separate shapes.
Select and edit each shape individually using the Direct Selection tool.
Note
When smart guides are enabled, the Knife tool automatically snaps to anchor points and paths as you cut. Press Alt (Windows) or Option (macOS) as you drag to cut in a straight line with the Knife tool.
