Select the item for which you want to adjust the opacity:

  • Object or object group: Use the Selection tool to select the object or object group.
  • Layer: Go to Window > Layers, and then select the layer in the Layers panel.
  • Fill or Stroke: Use the Selection tool to select the object. Then, go to Window > Appearance, and from the Appearance panel, select Fill or Stroke.

Select Window > Transparency.

In the Transparency panel, adjust the Opacity slider or type the specific value.

Note

If you move an object into a group or layer, it inherits the opacity of the group or layer, and if you move it out, it loses that opacity.
