AI Assistant is now available for testing and feedback. Try it now in Illustrator (Beta).

Before you begin

Ensure that:

  • You're using the latest version of Illustrator (Beta).
  • You're connected to the internet.
  • The document you want to work on is open in Illustrator.

Use AI Assistant

Note

For longer operations and complex tasks, AI Assistant can continue working in the background while you keep working in Illustrator. For best results, avoid editing the same objects that AI Assistant is currently modifying.

Open the document you want to work on in Illustrator (Beta).

Select AI Assistant   in the Application Bar at the top of the workspace.

Optional: If you want AI Assistant to reference a specific file for more context, select Add files in the prompt field, and then choose a supported file. Attached files appear as thumbnails above the prompt.

In the AI Assistant panel, select a suggested workflow starter such as Recolor, Organize, Export, Setup, or Fit Text to automatically populate the prompt field with a suggested request. You can also enter or edit your own prompt directly in the prompt field.

If AI Assistant needs more details, it shows a set of options. Select an option or enter your own input to continue. To proceed without answering, select Skip.

Review the generated prompt and modify it as needed to make the request more specific.

Press Enter (Windows) / Return (macOS) or select Send  .

Review the Assistant steps to understand how AI Assistant is approaching the task and why. If something doesn't match your intent, refine your prompt or provide additional instructions before continuing.

Depending on the task, AI Assistant may ask for additional information or confirmation before proceeding.

Wait for AI Assistant to complete the task.

Review the results. If needed, select Copy   to copy the generated response for reuse.

Run a skill

Skills are ready-made actions for common production tasks that you can run without writing a prompt from scratch. In the AI Assistant panel, select a skill, provide any details it asks for, and let AI Assistant complete the steps on your behalf. A skill runs a defined set of steps on its own, so it's best for routine tasks you don't need to phrase yourself.

In the prompt field, type /. A list of available Skills appears. Alternatively, you can select Skills   in the prompt field.

Sample prompt: Run the / Prepare for Print skill on this document.

Select a skill to add it to your prompt.

Add any details you want, and then send your request.

Generate vector artwork from a text description

In the prompt field, describe the artwork you want to create, then send your request.

Sample prompt: Create a flat vector illustration of a tropical bird in a modern editorial style.

Choose the number of variations if AI Assistant asks, then wait for it to generate.

Review the variations and select the one you want. AI Assistant automatically places the selected artwork on the current canvas (artboard).

Note

You can generate up to 15 artwork generations per day with AI Assistant. If you reach the daily limit, you'll need to wait until it resets before generating more artwork.

Recolor artwork

In the prompt field, describe the colors or theme you want, and then send your request.

Sample prompt: Apply a sepia color palette to this illustration while keeping the original composition intact.

Review the recolored variations and apply the one you want.

Vectorize an image

In the prompt field, ask AI Assistant to trace or vectorize an image.

Sample prompt: Convert this hand-drawn logo sketch into clean, editable vector artwork.

Review the result and keep or refine it further as needed.

Manage multiple chats

You can keep multiple chats for the current document to organize different tasks. Start a new chat for a different task, switch between chats, rename them, or delete them as needed.

Use More   in the AI Assistant panel to:

  • Start a new chat to begin a fresh task with its own history.
  • Switch between open chats to pick up where you left off.
  • Rename a chat so it's easy to identify later.
  • Delete a chat you no longer need.

Provide feedback on AI Assistant responses

After reviewing a response or completed task in the AI Assistant panel, use the following options to provide feedback:

  • Like  : Select if AI Assistant understood your task, saved you time, or helped complete the task successfully.
  • Dislike  : Select if the response was incorrect, incomplete, unclear, or AI Assistant didn't accomplish the requested task.

After selecting an option, a feedback dialog opens where you can indicate whether AI Assistant:

  • Understood your question or task clearly
  • Saved you significant time
  • Handled repetitive work well
  • Is something you would use again on a real file

You can also provide additional comments and choose whether Adobe may contact you for follow-up feedback.
