Actions panel overview

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Learn more about the Actions panel overview in Adobe Illustrator to streamline workflow with single or multiple files.

An action is a series of tasks that can be played back on one or multiple files, such as menu commands, panel options, and tool operations. For example, you can create an action that resizes an image, applies an effect, and then saves the file in the desired format.

Actions can also include:

  • Unrecordable steps, such as using a painting tool.
  • Modal controls that pause playback to let you enter values in a dialog box.

Illustrator includes a set of predefined actions to help you perform common tasks quickly. You can use these as they are, customize them, or create your own actions to suit your workflow.

The Actions panel displays various actions highlighted with callouts, such as Default Actions, Opacity 60%, Opacity 40% Screen, and many more.
