Change color tints

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Learn how to change color tints in Illustrator.

Select Window > Swatches.

In the Swatches panel, select a Global Process Color or Spot Color, or select an object that uses one.

Select Window > Color.

In the Color panel, drag the T slider left or right or enter a value in the text box to modify the color’s intensity.

Note

If you don’t see the T slider, ensure that you have the Global Process Color or Spot Color selected. If you still don’t find the T slider, select Show Options from the More options dropdown list in the Color panel.

The Tint range is from 0% to 100%; the lower the number, the lighter the Tint will be.

The Color panel is displayed on the screen highlighting the T slider to adjust the tint of the selected color.
Use the Color panel to activate the Fill and Stroke.

Tip

To save the Tint as a swatch, drag the color to the Swatches panel, or select New Swatch in the Swatches panel. Illustrator automatically names the new swatch based on the original color and its Tint value.
For example, if your base color is Sky Blue and you apply a 50% Tint, the new swatch will be named Sky Blue 50%.
