Learn how to select grouped, nested, and layered objects in Illustrator using advanced selection methods.
Select grouped or nested objects
Use the Layers panel to select objects that are grouped or nested.
In the Layers panel, scroll and expand layers or groups to find the object you want to select. The selection color boxes appear next to each selected item in the panel.
Select the Indicates Selected Art (click to select art) column between the target button and the scroll bar.
Press Shift-click multiple objects in the Indicates Selected Art (click to select art) column to select or deselect them.
Select the Indicates Selected Art (click to select art) column next to a layer or group name to select all artwork within it.
Select an object in the Layers panel, then choose Select > Object > All on Same Layers to select all objects on the same layer.
