Select Window > Type > Character to open the Character panel.

In the Set the font size field of the Character panel, type the required size or select a font size from the dropdown menu.

Screenshot of Adobe Illustrator’s Character panel showing text formatting options. The font is set to Impact, style to Regular, and font size highlighted as 60 pt. Two artboards with colorful fruit and vegetable illustrations are visible in the background with the text “VEG” and “Fruits” placed on them.
Type the font size in the Set the font size field.

Tip

To change the unit of the font size, select Illustrator > Settings > Units (macOS) or Edit > Preferences > Units (Windows), and then select a unit from the Type dropdown menu.

Change the font style

Double-click the text on the canvas using the Selection tool to activate the Type  tool.

In the text box, select the portion of the text to which you want to apply the style.

In the Character panel, select the font style from the Set the font Style dropdown menu or use the following keyboard shortcuts:

  • Press Shift + Command + B (macOS) or press Shift + Ctrl + B (Windows) to make the text bold.
  • Press Shift + Command + I (macOS) or press Shift + Ctrl + I (Windows) to italicize the text.
  • Press Shift + Command + U (macOS) or press Shift + Ctrl + U (Windows) to add underline.
Note

Bold and italic styles won’t apply if the selected font family doesn’t include those styles or if they aren’t installed on your system.

If you try to switch to a regular style that the font family doesn’t support, Illustrator automatically applies the closest available style, typically Myriad Pro Regular.
