Insert or replace a character using the Glyphs panel

Select Window > Type > Glyphs.

Select the Type tool from the Tools panel.

Select the text area where you want to insert or replace a character.

Perform one of the given steps as required:

  • To insert a new character: Place the cursor at the desired insertion point and then double-click the character you want to insert in the Glyphs panel.
  • To replace a character: Highlight the character that you want to replace. Then, double-click the new glyph you want in the Glyphs panel.

Highlight alternate glyphs in the text

Select File > Document Setup.

In the Document Setup dialog box, select the Highlight Substituted Glyphs checkbox.

Select OK.

Replace a character with on-canvas alternate glyphs

Select the Type tool from the Tools panel to highlight the character you want to replace.

Select Window > Type > Glyphs.

In the Glyphs panel, select Alternates For Current Selection from the Show dropdown menu.

Hover the cursor over the selected character to select an alternate glyph.
