Smart Guides options

Learn more about the different Smart Guides options.

Select Edit > Preferences > Smart Guides (Windows) or Illustrator > Settings Smart Guides (macOS) to access the Smart Guides options:

The Smart Guides Preferences dialog box displays the Display Options such as Object Guides, Glyph Guides, and more.

Smart Guides options

Function

Object Guides

Displays guides when objects are created, moved, or transformed.

Glyphs Guides

Displays guides when aligning to individual characters or glyph boundaries.

Alignment Guides

Displays guides along the center and edges of geometric objects, artboard, and bleeds.

Anchor/Path Labels

Displays information when paths intersect or align with anchor points.

Object Highlighting

Highlights the object as you move it.

Measurement Labels

Displays cursor position, distance moved (Δx and Δy), and relative placement during drawing, selecting, or transforming objects.

Transform Tools

Displays transformation values when scaling, rotating, or shearing objects.

Spacing Guides

Displays guides to help evenly space objects as you move them.

Invoke Distance Guides

Displays the distance between two objects and the position of an object relative to its parent artboard.

Snap to Last Location

Snaps objects back to their last position.

Construction Guides

Displays guides at specified angles as you draw new objects. Construction Guides support up to six angles.

Snapping Tolerance

Specifies the distance (in points) within which Smart Guides activate when the pointer comes close to another object.
