Format column, bar, and line graphsLearn how to format column, bar, and line graphs by adjusting spacing and customizing line and data point styles.

Adjust column, bar, and cluster spacing

Select the graph using the Selection tool.

Go to Object > Graph > Type.

In the Graph Type dialog box, enter a value between 1% and 1000% for Column Width, Bar Width, or Cluster Width.

Note

A value less than 100% adds space between elements, 100% places them directly next to each other with no gaps, and values greater than 100% cause overlap.

Control column, bar, and lines overlap

Select the graph using the Selection tool.

Go to Object > Graph > Type.

In the Graph Type dialog box

  • First Row in Front: Brings the first data group to the front of the graph.
  • First Column in Front: Shows the data from the first column clearly when columns or clusters overlap due to width settings over 100%.

Adjust lines and data points in a line, scatter, and radar graph

Select the graph using the Selection tool.

Go to Object > Graph > Type.

In the Graph Type dialog box, set one or more of the following:

  • Mark Data Points: Adds square markers at each data point.
  • Connect Data Points: Draws lines between data points.
  • Edge-to-Edge Lines: Extends lines across the entire horizontal axis. This isn’t available for scatter graphs.
  • Draw Filled Lines: Creates thicker, filled lines when Connect Data Points is enabled.
