Edit swatch groups using the color wheel

Discover how to edit swatch groups with the color wheel for easy color adjustments in your artwork.

Select the object, and then select Edit > Edit Colors > Recolor Artwork.

In the Recolor tab, select Advanced Options.

In the Recolor Artwork dialog box, select the Edit tab.

To edit the swatch group, do one of the following:

  • Select Display smooth color wheel icon or Display segmented color wheel icon and drag the color handle to change its color.
  • Select Display color bars to show only colors from the color group as individual solid bars.
The Recolor Artwork dialog box displays a smooth color wheel and highlighted options to select the color display. It also shows the Swatch Groups list and options to name, save, and delete swatch groups.
Select the Recolor Art checkbox to preview all the colors in your artwork.

To modify the colors, do the following:

  • Drag the H, S, and B sliders to change the hue, saturation, and brightness.
  • Right-click the color wheel or the color handle, and then select Add New Color.
  • Right-click the color in the color wheel, and then select Remove Color.

Select Show saturation and hue on wheel to toggle between to view hue and saturation.

Right-click the color in the color wheel or bars and select Set as Base Color.

You can also select a color in the Active Colors box and then select Set current colors as the base colors.

To confine colors to a swatch library, select Limit the swatch group to colors in a swatch library .

To save the edited colors as a new group, type a new name in the name box, and then select New Swatch Group icon.

To save the edits to the original color group, select Save changes to swatch group icon.

To ensure that the colors are in gamut or web safe, select each color marker and select the Out Of Gamut Warning or Out Of Web Color Warning buttons as necessary.
