Based on your feedback, we've made some improvement to the feature related to auto sizing of rectangular area text. When you drag a new area text using the Type tool, or convert an existing point type to area type, you'll find auto sizing turned ON by default. You can double-click on the center-bottom control point of the area type to make it fixed size, or by dragging the same control point to a make the area type longer (or wider in case of vertical type). For fixed size area type objects, there is a new widget that can toggle between auto sizing and fixed sizing.

You can choose to have fixed size area type objects (as in earlier versions) by turning off Preferences > Type > Auto Size New Area Type
